Jewelry and Freedom - Tincal lab, Porto
With the main objective to show the quality and diversity of contemporary jewelry, opening its doors to the general public, Tincal lab invites every year jewelers from around the world for a Challenge: the creation of up to 3 pieces with a maximum price, inspired by a theme.
In 2024, the 10th edition of this initiative suggests a reflection on the theme “Jewelry and Freedom” and brings to Porto pieces from 78 artists from 31 different countries, created exclusively for this event.
In this exhibition, artists use freedom as a source of inspiration, exploring its importance for us as human beings, its fragility, its complexities, its symbols and the different facets it encompasses - these are not only pieces of jewelry, but also reflections, statements, works of art.

Three brooches | wood, old oil painting, paint, sterling silver, steel

Summer 2024, the salty and windy coastline of Zeeland.
Three brooches. Inspired by the movement and energy of the dunes, the sea, the sky, and the stillness of being present.

Past - Present - Future with Precious Collective | 2024
venue: Bury museum of Art and Sculpture, UK

If precious means ‘of high cost or worth: not to be treated carelessly’ then the Precious Collective is where these concepts are questioned - it is where the idiosyncratic, irregular ideas live; where to encounter the unexpected.
The enduring ‘norm’ of gold & diamonds is challenged by this group's imaginative interpretation of body adornment, process & materials.

How can jewellery challenge & contribute to the language of sustainability?
What are the conversations about sustainably that are triggered by the jewels we make?
Where are the questions in our practice about sustainability & how do they have a
connected relationship with the making, methods & materials we use?

The ambition for the exhibition was to showcase a holistic and identified concern for sustainability within the field of art jewellery. The works demonstrated sustainable action within making and material.

TASTE with WM Collective and restaurant Vert | 2022

A combination of gastronomy and contemporary jewellery. Guests were invited to take a seat at a long dinner table set with cloches and mirrors. Each course the guests were offered an amuse-bouche by gastronomic duo Julia Gatsonides and Richard Rademaker, and a new piece of jewellery to explore.

These evenings lead to interesting and inspiring discussions about colour, shape, taste and texture.

DOMUS DOMI with Gésine Hackenberg | 2021
part of the 'A Table for Two' series at Galerie Beyond, BE

2020 and 2021 were spent in the confinement of my home. This resulted in a body of work literally inspired by my walls and floors; it's colours, textures and history. Click here for the HOME 20 | 21 collection.

The Contemporary Jewellery Exchange is a project initiated by Olga Raben in 2014. It resulted in a web exhibition and publication in a form of a book – which is one of the most up – to – date and interesting reviews of contemporary jewellery. 370 artists from all over the world took part in the exchange, using a variety of, often extreme, techniques and materials in their work.

The artists who declared to take part in the exchange, were divided into groups and paired on the basis of the submitted portfolio. Then, each of them was asked to create a unique object, designed specifically for the assigned person, according to the guidelines established between them. How lucky I was to be paired with Nolia Shakti.

a r r h y t h m i a - a collection of works about love and resilience | 2013

' Arrhythmia' is my expression of how the body reflects and deals with emotional trauma. I've used natural materials very close to the human skin: leather and parchment. By hand-stitching these materials to silver I create new structures to be worn almost as an extension of the body; a translation of the fascinating process taking place on the inside.

A line of stitches is strong but flexible at the same time, allowing a human body to heal. In my work it connects different materials whilst I build my pieces, creating new identities and narratives.
