My haven of peace and protection. The sanctuary that holds past and present, the east and the west, encompassing my roots and my branches. Like for most of us, my 2020 and 2021 were spent in the confinement of my home. Time gave opportunity, that I took to plan and start renovations on my house. In times when the earth felt like it stood still, I craved change.
Renovations started by taking out some elements of the house. Stripping a wall uncovered layers of painted panels. Memories of the past unveiling in the present remind me that we are always interconnected. To the past, to the present, to the future, and to each other. Interconnectedness laid the foundation for my new floor. The black herringbone pattern of wood underneath my feet reappeared in my sketches for this collection. The stories emerging from the wall, the change of foundation under my feet, the challenges of connectivity combined with elements from my own home interior became catalyst for this new series of work. Blacks and nudes, geometry, vintage kimono patterns, a touch of Louboutin, old wood, modern art.
